Martha is not new to teaching but she is new to our group of specialty class teachers here at Bernina. To welcome her we thought we would introduce her properly.
Martha has been sewing almost all her life. Before she could actually use the machine, she played in the button box on the bed as her mother sewed up beautiful dresses for her and her sister.
In 1976, Bea Ramsey was teaching a free-motion embroidery class at Ramsey’s Fabrics in Edmond. Bea got Martha hooked on this intriguing process.
In the 80s when Martha’s sister asked for help with her new business in commercial embroidery, Martha quickly said “Yes!”. For over 20 years Martha has been involved in the commercial embroidery business while still sewing along the way. Because she is so inquisitive and wants to know how and why things work the way they do, she found herself at the forefront of technology in the business. She made machines and software do things people didn’t think they could do. She learned what products needed to be used to achieve the best looking embroidery. Soon people in the industry started asking her for advice. She has written many manuals for embroidery software, equipment, supplies and coauthored two books.
Martha has recent left OESD and is venturing in to some new avenues of the sewing and embroidery industry. She is presently going to school full time to learn how to help develop websites for sewing businesses. She and her daughter have a business, Madcow Creationz.(Mothers and Daughters Crafters of the World)
